Because this event can be overwhelming, we’d like to highlight some key resources our newest attendees have found most helpful. In the coming months, we’ll share much more detail but know we are already thinking about making you feel at home.

First Time Attendee & New Member Orientation Webinar

Held mid-July as a pre-conference webinar, AOM staff will provide an overview of your Academy membership benefits and share tips and tricks on how to navigate the Annual Meeting prior to your arrival in Chicago. 

All-Academy Opening Reception

Friday evening, 9 August, 18:00*, Exhibit Hall
Don't miss the Opening Reception, offering early access to exhibits and opportunities to meet with AOM’s leaders both past and present.

Hosted by the Membership team, the New Attendee Welcome Room is reserved for you! Whether you're a new member or attending your first Annual Meeting, this is your go-to location for questions about your schedule or membership, grab some coffee and a light snack, and enjoy a quiet respite between sessions.

Before You Leave

Get your bearings. Review the Chicago Travel page for tips on where to go, what to do, and how to get around. Be sure to pick up an area map when you arrive.


 

Gear up for the Annual Meeting! Plan ahead and make the most of your first meeting


March/April

  • Register to attend the Annual Meeting. Take advantage of early registration rates before 7 May.
  • Book your accommodations as rooms go quickly. Hotel reservations deadline is 17 July.
  • Make your travel arrangements. Visa information is available for international travelers.

May/June

  • Review program and identify goals focusing on your 2 primary Division and Interest Group (DIG) sessions.
  • Customize your program to have your schedule on hand.
  • Include DIG socials and other networking opportunities in your schedule. This is the time to meet others with similar interests.
  • Review the Career Fair listings and sign-up for Career Coaching. Career Services require a separate sign-up (link coming soon) during the Annual Meeting.

July

  • Pack! Business casual attire is accepted and preferred. If you have interviews scheduled at the Annual Meeting Career Fair, business attire is a must.
  • Bring comfortable shoes as sessions take place over several properties.  
  • Don't forget a jacket or sweater as the air conditioning in meeting rooms may be chilly.
  • Sign-up to attend the New Member and Annual Meeting orientation (link available June 2024).

August

  • Check in to your hotel, and pick up your badge in the registration area or the check-in kiosks located in the hotels.
  • Get connected. Wi-Fi connections (link coming soon) and charging stations are available throughout the meeting properties. Power up your devices and get connected so you don't miss anything!
  • Download the mobile app, review your sessions, and don't forget to check for last-minute schedule changes.
  • Find your bearings and make sure you know your upcoming sessions and locations.
  • Tune in with the #AOM2024 hashtag for up-to-the-minute information on AOM's social media channels. Spread the word about the meeting, connect with other attendees, and share photos!
  • Visit the AOM Information Booth in the registration are for answers to questions and guidance on how to navigate the properties and the AOM 2024 program. 

Other Helpful Tips

Don't forget your business cards to hand out as you network. Save space in your luggage for conference materials, Exhibit Hall promotional items, and souvenirs!

Remember to take advantage of all the other benefits included in your AOM membership!
